Captain Cory – Dukes Name Jewitt Captain Wellington, Ont

As the Dukes head into a new OJHL season, the team has many decisions to make before the team hits the ice on September 8th. One of those items has been crossed off the list as the Dukes have named forward Cory Jewitt Captain for the 2024-25 season

Jewitt, a native of Clinton, Ontario heads into his 2nd season with the Dukes after joining the team in the summer of 2023 after playing 2 seasons with the Listowel Cyclones of the GOJHL. Jewitt had an immediate impact for the Dukes, leading the Dukes in scoring with 67 points (30 goals, 37 assists) in 56 games. Jewitt also was the teams leading point getter in the playoffs recording 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 5 games as the Dukes fell to the Toronto Jr Canadiens.

Duke’s Head Coach/GM Kent Lewis said choosing Jewitt to be the team’s captain was an easy decision when reached for comment. “We are proud to announce that Cory Jewitt will be our captain for the 2024-25 season.

Cory sets a great example on and off the ice for our group which makes him a logical choice to be the captain of the Dukes”. Lewis went on to add that alternate captains will be selected in the near future. “We have many quality kids on this team with leadership qualities that are an asset to our team. We will be naming alternate captains in the near future”.

Jewitt, who heads into his overage year with the Dukes, noted that he was extremely honoured to be named captain of Dukes for the upcoming season.

“I’m extremely honoured to be the captain of the Dukes this year. I want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates for the opportunity and I look forward to getting the year started!

See you soon Dukes fans!“

The Dukes kick off the OJHL regular season when they travel to Pickering on September 8th for a matchup with the Pickering Panthers. The Dukes will have their home opener on September 13th when they host the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at Lehigh Arena.
